The iconic dark fantasy manga Berserk — created by the late Kentaro Miura — is officially set to return sometime in 2026, ending months of uncertainty about the series’ future following Miura’s death. This was confirmed in a public message shared by writer Kouji Mori on X (formerly Twitter) in early January 2026.

In his announcement, Mori stated that he will be putting all his effort into supervising the serialization of Berserk in 2026, though he did not specify an exact schedule for when new chapters will be published.

As of September 2025, Berserk had reached 383 chapters, with the story following protagonist Guts in the Eastern Empire of Kushan after his exile.

Miura’s Legacy and Continuation

Berserk first began serialization in 1989 and has since become one of the most influential and critically acclaimed manga series in history. However, after Miura’s passing in 2021, the future of the franchise — including manga, anime adaptations, and film projects — was left uncertain.

In 2022, the manga resumed under the supervision of Kouji Mori, who is working alongside Studio Gaga — the group of assistants and artists who worked with Miura before his death. Mori has said he is relying on story outlines and discussions he shared with Miura over decades of friendship to guide the continuation of Guts’ journey.

What This Means for Fans

With over 70 million copies in circulation worldwide, Berserk carries immense cultural and commercial weight, making its continuation a major moment for fans.

Although Mori didn’t outline specific plot details or a release timeline for the upcoming chapters, his confirmation that the manga will continue in 2026 closes a long period of doubt about the series’ direction. However, some scrutiny and discussion remain among the community regarding how faithfully the work will preserve Miura’s artistic and narrative legacy.

Mori also clarified that while he will supervise the series, he will not be drawing the main character, Guts, because of the difficulty involved — a role now handled by artist Yoshimitsu Kurosaki.

Why the Announcement Matters

The return of Berserk in 2026 is significant not just as a continuation of one of manga’s most beloved epics, but also as a transition into a new era for the franchise. With Guts’ journey still unfolding and Mori at the helm, fans can look forward to exploring the next chapters of Berserk — even as they reflect on Miura’s unprecedented influence on the medium.
