Griffith is a multifaceted character that is loved and despised by Berserk fans, and here are five of his most egregious errors.
The anime is a gloomy fantasy. Berserk gained a cult following due to its intriguing and unforgettable storyline twists. Griffith’s disturbingly dark character was met with skepticism by many fans. The attractive and personable man was driven by ambition, but he made some of the worst decisions in anime history.
His beautiful white hair and feminine appearance contrasted sharply with his nasty demeanor. He was a strong-willed character who never hesitated in challenging situations throughout the series. Despite his humble beginnings, he rose to great heights and became a noble man. While most of Griffith’s actions were irreversible, he did make some that resulted in significant changes in the Midlands.
He Got The King’s Brother And His Son Killed
After the events in episode nine, fans had conflicting emotions. Griffith and his companions were out hunting when the leader was struck by a stray arrow. Griffith suspected Julius, the king’s brother, was responsible for the assassination attempt not long after. He then dispatched Guts to revenge Julius’ death. On his way out, Guts killed another person, whom he mistook for a guard but was actually Julius’ 13-year-old son, Adonis.
That night left an indelible impact on Guts’ psyche, as well as on the hearts of those supporters who weren’t satisfied with Griffith’s directives.
When He Violated Charlotte
Griffith’s involvement in sexual activities with Charlotte was one of his worst decisions. The prince piqued the princess’s curiosity. However, using her affections for him in this manner was not the best idea.
Sleeping with someone before getting married was an atrocious conduct at the time, especially in royal circles. Fans were arguing whether Griffith’s act was rape because Charlotte didn’t intervene or call for aid. Griffith’s life, however, was turned upside down when the King discovered what he had done, and he was imprisoned and mercilessly tortured for a year.
His Obsession Over Guts
Griffith has been obsessed with Guts from their first meeting. To some extent, this was understandable because he was a valuable member of the band.
Fans, on the other hand, recognized there was more to their relationship than meets the eye. Most fans believe Griffith was head over heels in love with Guts, and it’s possible that Griffith’s life would have been a lot easier if he hadn’t been so blinded by his affections for him. When Guts decided to leave the band, it not only threw a wrench in Griffith’s plans, but it also made him angry and depressed.
When He Became Femto
Griffith and his band were taken to another dimension during the Eclipse, where they had to battle monsters. Griffith was invited to join them as the fifth God Hand by four powerful demons who described who they were. He had to make a sacrifice in exchange. Griffith delved deep within his mind for a few moments, doing some soul-searching.
Griffith had to cruelly sacrifice his crew in order to achieve his goal. Griffith’s band was tormented and slain by demons while he turned into Femto.
When He Kept Blaming Guts For Everything
Guts was without a doubt Griffith’s greatest flaw. While Griffith secretly adored him, he continued to blame Guts for his poor decisions. Griffith was distraught when Guts departed the band and acted rashly as a result. Griffith acted spitefully in order to seize Guts’ possessions, which is why he slept with Princess Charlotte. He was tormented and disfigured as a result.
Rather of accepting responsibility for his deeds, Griffith privately blamed Guts for everything and exacted his vengeance when he sacrificed them to become Femto. In order to finally exact vengeance on his ex-comrade, he grabbed and sexually assaulted Casca in front of Guts.
