Despite the fact that the 1990s OVA and the most recent series have both failed miserably to live up to the manga’s near-perfect execution, Kintaro Miamura’s Berserk remains perhaps one of the best manga series of all time. Guts is the name of our “hero,” if you can call him that.
Here are five characters from anime that Guts could defeat:
Jonathan Joestar (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)
While Jonathan Joestar was an excellent main character in Phantom Blood, the first installment of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, we doubt he’d be able to stand up to Guts, especially if he couldn’t stand up to Dio. Jonathan Joestar has the power of Hamon, a force that moves through physical particles and possesses the same amount of energy as the sun when employed in the special move Sunset Yellow Overdrive. This appears to be extremely powerful, and it is, but the problem is that Guts is motivated. Guts’ ability to use the Berserker armor and sword to lop Jonathan to pieces is just as vital as his ability to use the Berserker armor and sword to lop Jonathan to pieces.
Dio Brando (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)
Dio Brando is another Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure character on our list. He’s included because he has a similar feeling to Griffith, despite the fact that Dio isn’t as charismatic or immediately disarming in this arc, and he also betrays our hero. Griffith, on the other hand, isn’t quite as fast to give up the ghost as Dio, but they’re both interesting personalities. Guts would annihilate Dio, mostly because he’s already defeated more terrifying adversaries. Despite Dio’s extraordinary strength, only Guts has the drive and total hate in his heart to defeat him.
Battosai (Rurouni Kenshin)
Battosai (Battosai) is a Japanese The Manslayer isn’t a force to be taken lightly. Unfortunately for him, that is only true within the confines of his own universe’s own logic. Rurouni Kenshin’s protagonist is a total juggernaut on his home turf, a full master magician.
When we consider Guts’ berserker armor, the problem becomes apparent. It enables him to conquer any aspect of himself that prevents him from attaining his greatest potential, while also amplifying all other tendencies.
Thorfinn (Vinland Saga)
Thorfinn, the protagonist of the Vinland Saga, is a strong fighter, capable of scaling a fortress wall or outrunning an entire platoon of enemies.
He doesn’t have any magical abilities, therefore even if he didn’t wear the berserker gear, he’d be easily defeated by Guts. At the very least, Thorfinn would be the Band Of The Hawk’s version of a competent combatant.
Raki (Claymore)
The dark fantasy series Claymore is perhaps one of the most commonly recommended series for Berserk fans. Raki, our protagonist, is a young man who looks eerily like Guts. While the Yoma in Claymore are scary, Guts kills hundreds of demons every week who are far more formidable. Raki also doesn’t have any especially interesting abilities. He just does a fantastic job of acting like a normal, extremely talented swordsman, and that’s about it. He’s another character Guts would be able to handle even if he didn’t have his armor.
